Following the Labor Day holiday, Jenny Lake Boating will discontinue operations for the 2012 season to prevent damage to boat motors and trailers from unusually low water levels on Jenny Lake. Early snow melt and very low August run-off coupled with consistent hot and dry weather throughout the summer have caused the lake level to drop below a safe operating level. Jenny Lake Boating is an authorized concession of Grand Teton National Park that provides boat shuttles, kayak rentals and scenic cruises on Jenny Lake. Grand Teton National Park ranger naturalists will also discontinue their daily Inspiration Point hike on September 4. The popular hike will be replaced with a program called "Explore Jenny Lake." Visitors may join a ranger on a hike around the south side of Jenny Lake. Following the ranger-led program, visitors have the option to continue around Jenny Lake up to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point. Meet a ranger at the flagpole in front of the Jenny Lake Visitor Center at 9:30 am for a 3 mile, 2.5 hour excursion. Jenny Lake Boating began operating shuttles and scenic cruises on Jenny Lake in 2002, and their current contract runs through 2017. Contractual obligations require that the company provide services on Jenny Lake from Memorial Day through Labor Day each year, with the option to extend their operating season later if conditions permit. Jenny Lake Boating began operations this year on May 15. The Jenny Lake Ranger Station is open daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 9, and the Jenny Lake Visitor Center and Store will remain open through September 23 from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. daily. |
