MOOSE, WY —The Blacktail Butte parking area on Highway 89 north of Moose Junction will be closed intermittently from June 19 through July 31, 2015. Closures are necessary to resurface the roadway and parking area, repave the adjacent sidewalk, and complete construction of a shared-use pathway connection to the parking area. The nearby trails on Blacktail Butte and the "Practice Rocks" climbing area will remain open for use.

In order to protect visitor and worker safety, the roadway and parking area will be closed during active construction and reopened when possible. Closures will last two to three days with the exception of one closure that will last up to seven days. Park visitors are asked to be mindful of closures as they are put in place for their safety.

Throughout the construction, the trails and other areas on Blacktail Butte will remain open. This includes the climbing area locally known as the "Practice Rocks." However, roadside parking is not allowed on Highway 89 or Antelope Flats Road.

As a reminder, the construction of the shared-use pathway segment that runs parallel to Highway 89 from Moose Junction to Antelope Flats Junction (1.2 miles) will continue through October. Motorists should expect 15-minute delays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., 7 days per week from May 1 through September 30, and plan for extra time to reach their destination.

Construction schedules may change or be delayed due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Visitors are encouraged to call the road construction information line at 307.739.3614, or stop at park visitor centers for current information. The park's newspaper, Grand Teton Guide, includes a road construction map and can be found online at www.nps.gov/grte or picked up at any park visitor center or entrance station.
