GATLINBURG, Tenn.— The National Park Service will close Abrams Falls Trail and trailhead parking lot in Great Smoky Mountains National Park from June 16 through June 18 to allow crews to complete trail maintenance. Visitors will not be able to access the falls from any trail during this closure.
During this closure, park staff encourage visitors to explore the park’s extensive network of over 800 miles of trails and recommend alternative hikes offering similar experiences to Abrams Falls Trail. Consider the below alternatives or visit the park website to learn more about hiking opportunities.
Alternate trails in the Cades Cove area:
- Anthony Creek Trail
- Schoolhouse Gap Trail.
- Bote Mountain Trail.
Alternate moderate trails that lead to waterfalls:
- Gabes Mountain Trail to Hen Wallow Falls.
- Hike to Cataract Falls.
- Middle Prong Trail.
- Porters Creek Trail.
Other great trail options:
- Cove Hardwood Nature Trail.
- Little River Trail.
- Metcalf Bottoms Trail/Little Brier Gap Trail to Little Greenbrier School and the Walker Sisters’ Cabin.
- Sugarland Valley Nature Trail.
