Hydration while hiking is critical to human health-- ensure that you are drinking enough water for physical activity.

Grand Canyon National Park is advising hikers that they need to treat their drinking water at the following locations:

  • Cottonwood Campground
  • Manzinita Resthouse
Hikers should always be able to carry or treat all water when hiking within Grand Canyon.

To treat water individuals should:
  • Follow manufacturers instructions on water filtration systems
  • Follow manufacturers instructions on water treatment tablets
  • To boil water, fill a pot with water, heat at ground level and allow bubbles to form. Allow water to boil for one(1) minute. Cool completely before drinking.


Visitors to Phantom Ranch should be aware that drinking water is unavailable at the following locations:
  • Boat Beach
  • Lower Delta Spigot
  • Restrooms near River Ranger Station
  • Bright Angel Campground

Drinking water is available and not impacted by this water treatment advisory at the following locations:
  • South Rim
  • North Rim
  • Mile and a half resthouse
  • Three mile resthouse
  • Indian Garden *NEW*
  • Phantom Ranch Lodge Area (including bunkhouse, ranger station, cantina and lodge)
