News Release Date: September 14, 2023

As stated in our July 12, 2023 press release and on the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (NRA) website, the National Park Service (NPS) is reminding visitors that pin anchoring vessels is illegal in Glen Canyon NRA. This includes the placement of metal stakes in any holes within the sandstone or reusing abandoned stakes, even if they are pre-existing. Authorized methods of anchoring vessels include burying anchors in sand, tying vessels to natural features and/or other anchoring methods that do not involve the permanent alteration of natural features. For more information on anchoring vessels on Lake Powell, please visit https://www.nps.gov/glca/learn/news/houseboat-staking.htm.
