Horseshoe Bend Overlook Fatality Feb 14 2022

On Feb. 14, 2022, at approximately 2:20 p.m., the National Park Service (NPS) Glen Canyon Regional Communications Center received a 911 call of a fatal fall at Horseshoe Bend Overlook in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area near Page, AZ.  Witnesses reported an adult male was outside the safety railing among a dispersed crowd and had fallen off the cliff’s edge and into the canyon below. Classic Air Medical performed a search at the bottom of the canyon. At 3:08 p.m., Classic Air Medical located the victim and was assisted in recovery by NPS Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Rangers. The victim was transported via helicopter to the NPS Wahweap Fire Station and transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner in Flagstaff, AZ. The victim has been identified as Seyedamirhossein Mirhosseininiri, age 29, recently residing in Bothell, Washington.   

Assisting at the scene were personnel from the National Park Service, Page Police Department, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, and Classic Air Aviation.  

The incident is currently under investigation by the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. Additional details are not available at this time.  

It is recommended that visitors to Horseshoe Bend Overlook recreate responsibly by staying behind the safety railings to ensure their safety at the edge of the 1,000-foot cliff. If visitors choose to leave the viewing platform they must remain vigilant to ensure their own safety and maintain awareness of their proximity to the cliff edge at all times.
