BARTLETT COVE, AK – Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is announcing modifications to operations to support federal, state, and local efforts in response to novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Effectively immediately, the park campground in Bartlett Cove is open for public use. Campers should follow State of Alaska and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) social distancing guidelines, which include keeping six feet from others not of the same household. Campers should wear face coverings when using public facilities, such as the rest rooms or warming shelter. As there is no running water in the campground, campers are advised to bring hand-sanitizer.
This is a free walk-in campground that requires campers to pre-register prior to arrival in the park. To pre-register campers must complete and sign the registration form available on the park website and follow instructions for submission. No in-person registration is available and paper registration forms will not be accepted. Upon arrival campers must check-in at the Visitor Information Station (VIS), located near the park’s public use dock.

The campground features bear-proof food storage caches, composting toilets, a fire pit on the beach, and a small warming shelter. Wheelbarrows are available for transporting gear between the parking area, dock, and campground.

The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, and community is our number one priority. The National Park Service (NPS) is working service-wide with federal, state, and local authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. Updates to Glacier Bay operations are available at www.nps.gov/glba and through social media channels.

If contemplating a visit to a national park during this pandemic, the NPS asks visitors to adhere to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state and local public health authorities to protect visitors and employees. As services are limited, the NPS urges visitors to continue to practice Leave No Trace principles, including pack-in and pack-out, to keep outdoor spaces safer and healthier.

Updates about NPS operations will be posted on www.nps.gov/coronavirus. Please check with individual parks for specific details about park operations.
