BARTLETT COVE, Alaska – The National Park Service (NPS) has issued the annual Superintendent’s Compendiums for 2018. Each NPS area in Alaska has a compendium, a compilation of all designations, including closures and restrictions adopted under the discretionary authority within the regulations covering national parks. This regulatory tool helps manage Alaska's national park areas for the public’s enjoyment, use and protection.
Based on public comment, the NPS modified the proposed changes on parking along the Denali Park Road. The final compendium for Denali preserves most existing parking opportunities. The NPS decided not to adopt a proposal pertaining to wildlife harvest in Bering Land Bridge National Preserve. The proposal would have required hunters to remove non-edible animal parts from harvested game within a half mile of Serpentine Hot Springs and Serpentine Hot Springs Airstrip for public health and safety reasons. The NPS will be increasing public outreach and education to address the conflicts and will revisit the issue in future years if necessary.
The final compendiums are effective immediately and available online at https://www.nps.gov/locations/alaska/current-compendiums.htm.
