Public Invited to Brown-Bag Presentation

The Crown of the Continent Research Learning Center at Glacier National Park is hosting a brown-bag luncheon presentation about the recent World Parks Congress on Wednesday, January 21 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the park’s community building in West Glacier.

Glacier National Park Superintendent Jeff Mow and US Geological Survey Research Ecologist Dan Fagre will share their experiences from the 2014 IUCN World Parks Congress, held in Sydney, Australia this past fall. Mow and Fagre attended the conference and will present their observations on how Glacier National Park fits into the world of global conservation. The presentation is free and open to the public.
 
There were more than 6,000 participants from over 170 countries at the 2014 IUCN World Parks Congress in Australia. Participants celebrated the many inspiring ways parks and people are addressing the challenges facing the planet through protected area approaches that respect and conserve nature, while benefitting human health and prosperity. The Congress took stock of not just what is challenging protected areas, but how innovative leaders in every corner of the world are finding and implementing protected area solutions to a wide range of challenges, from climate change to economic recessions.

Mow has served as the superintendent of Glacier National Park since August 2013. Previously, he was the superintendent for Kenai Fjords in Alaska. Fagre is a research ecologist and climate change research coordinator for the United States Geological Survey’s Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center. He is stationed at Glacier National Park and has worked for the past 15 years to understand how global-scale environmental changes may affect the mountain ecosystems of the area.
