News Release Date: November 12, 2010 WEST GLACIER, MONT. – On Tuesday, November 16th Cheryl Talley, Director of Energy and Member Services at the Flathead Electric Cooperative (FEC) will discuss FEC’s commitment to pursuing local renewable energy sources as part of Glacier National Park’s continuing ‘Brown Bag’ lunchtime presentations. Cheap hydro-electric power from the Bonneville Power Association will be capped in the future. Talley will explain how FEC must find new sources of electricity to fuel growth in our area. This ‘Brown Bag’ lecture will be held in the West Glacier Community Building at Glacier National Park headquarters at noon on November 16. This presentation is free and open to the public. For years, the Flathead County landfill burned off landfill gas - in a flare - for water quality compliance purposes. The FEC has recently partnered with Flathead County to take over operation of the well field that collects and burns the gas in an electricity-generating facility. This operation uses proven technology; however, the facility is the first of its kind in Montana. Operation has been very successful, generating enough electricity to power hundreds of homes in the Flathead Valley.
