WEST GLACIER, MONT. - Glacier National Park officials are saddened by the loss of a park visitor Saturday, August 22, 2009. Details are still being gathered, but it appears that a male climbing below Ahern Pass near Helen Lake east of the Continental Divide fell some fifty feet around 2 p.m. Saturday. Another hiker in the area spotted the victim, climbed down to him, and found that the climbing accident had been fatal. People with the second hiker made their way to the Granite Park Chalet and reported the incident. Saturday evening, Minuteman Aviation pf West Glacier, will transport the victim plus two family members that were hiking with the victim from the scene of the accident.
