WEST GLACIER, MONT. – The 2008 operating dates and nightly fee schedule for frontcountry campgrounds in Glacier National Park have been announced. The dates listed below represent the first day and the last night of camping for each category. During primitive camping there is NO water provided and any water taken from streams or lakes will require treatment prior to use.

** Fish Creek and St. Mary campground sites may be reserved for camping June 1 through September 1 through the National Recreation Reservation Service website at www.recreation.gov, or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Campers without prior reservations are also welcome, if space is available, for $23/night.

***St. Mary campground operates as a first come, first served campground with no reservations during the dates listed in this chart. It is the same campground as the St. Mary- reservation campground.

Additional notes:

- Campgrounds open at 8 a.m. and close or change status at 12 noon.

- Primitive and winter frontcountry campgrounds have pit toilets, but no water and only a limited number of sites are available.

- Winter camping is also available at St. Mary and in the Apgar picnic area from December 1, 2008 through the night of March 30, 2009. While there is no fee for winter camping, a valid entrance pass is required.

Group campsites are available at Apgar, Many Glacier, Two Medicine and St. Mary Campgrounds. Hiker/bicyclist sites are available at Apgar, Avalanche, Fish Creek, Many Glacier, Rising Sun, Sprague Creek, St. Mary, and Two Medicine Campgrounds. Nightly fees for group sites are $50 plus $5 per person after the first nine. Hiker/biker sites are $5 per person. At reservation campgrounds, the hiker/biker rate is $8/night and the group rate is $53 plus $5 per person after the first nine.

Visitors are reminded that winter entrance fees remain in effect until April 30. Beginning May 1, the seven-day single vehicle entrance fee is $25 and a seven-day single entrance (hiker, biker, or motorcyclist) is $12. Even when the entrance stations are not staffed, an entrance fee is still required. Follow the posted instructions at the self-payment boxes at each entrance station.
