WEST GLACIER, MONT. – Officials at Glacier National Park announce that a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for improvements to the St. Mary Visitor Center was signed by National Park Service Intermountain Acting Regional Director Anthony J. Schetzle on April 24, 2007. The decision was reached after reviewing public comments on the environmental assessment released in March. “The improvements to the St. Mary Visitor Center are necessary to provide a transit system terminal in support of the Going-to-the-Sun Road’s new transit system,” stated Superintendent Mick Holm. Actions include changes to the interior of the visitor center; accessible restrooms; an addition to the visitor center to house a transit employee break room; construction of a dance arbor; bus stop; and expansion of the visitor center parking lot. The FONSI is available through the park’s planning Web site: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/parkHome.cfm?parkId=61. - NPS - |
