WEST GLACIER, MONT. – Officials at Glacier National Park are accepting applications for the 2007 Artist-in-Residence program. Artists-in-Residence stimulate and foster the artistic exploration of Glacier’s natural and cultural treasures and share their inspiration with the public through educational programs and exhibits.

Artist-in-Residence coordinator Matt Graves stated, "This year, we will again select artists based on their abilities to produce written or graphic material suitable for use by elementary school children. The compositions can take many forms; the 2007 Artist-in-Residence Program is open to painters, illustrators, writers, poets, composers, and musicians." He added, "Last year’s program also had this educational focus, and the produced works are already being used by visiting schoolchildren. It is a rewarding experience for the selected artists."

Possible artistic works include: line-art illustrations suitable for children to color, natural history field sketches, color murals depicting the habitats of Glacier with representative flora and fauna, and songs and poetry/prose about Glacier. Each artist and the park will agree on the final products to be produced during the residency. The produced works are donated to the United States Government and includes publishing and reproduction rights.

The two selected artists will each be furnished lodging for four-weeks during the summer which will give them the opportunity to pursue their art form and to develop materials.

Completed applications must be postmarked by February 15, 2007. Applicants must include a non-refundable $10 check made payable to "Glacier Natural History Association." These funds will be used to process applications, return application materials to the applicants, and develop Artist-in-Residence exhibits.

Applications should be mailed to: Matt Graves, Artist-in-Residence Coordinator, P.O. Box 128, 1 Going-to-the-Sun Road (FedEx or UPS,) West Glacier, MT 59936.
