Glacier National ParkMedia Release July 12, 2016 Margie Steigerwald 406-888-5838 Tim Rains 406-888-7895 MEDIA16- 40 Glacier Presents Program about George Grant, the First Chief Photographer of the National Park Service Public Invited to Free Brown-Bag Luncheon Presentation WEST GLACIER, MONT –The Crown of the Continent Research Learning Center at Glacier National Park is hosting a brown bag luncheon presentation by Ren and Helen Davis, co-authors ofLandscapes for the People: George Alexander Grant, First Chief Photographer of the National Park Service, on Friday July 22 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the park's Community Building in West Glacier. The presentation is free and open to the public. The talk, titledThe Unknown Elder: George Alexander Grant, First Chief Photographer of the National Park Serviceshares some of Grant's photographs (several featuring Glacier), his biography and role as chief photographer for the National Park Service (NPS), and emphasizes his relevance as the NPS celebrates its' Centennial. As freelance writers and photographers, Ren and Helen Davis have co-authored seven guidebooks and more than 100 magazine and newspaper articles.Landscapes for the Peopleisthe culmination of three years of research in the National Park Service photographic archives, the Western Archaeological Conservation Center, the National Archives, the Center for Creative Photography, and other sites.
