WEST GLACIER, MONT. – The Apgar Lookout Trail is now open. The trail was previously closed for public safety while a National Park Service communications tower and building were removed and replaced on Apgar Mountain. The Apgar Lookout tower is still closed. Apgar Mountain is located on the west side of Glacier National Park overlooking Lake McDonald. A helicopter was used to transport the communications tower and building from atop Apgar Mountain to a landing zone near the base of the mountain. A new communications tower and structure were then installed in order to better support park radio operations. Visitors should be cautious of any debris or construction materials near the trail and the Apgar Lookout. Climbing on any equipment or materials is dangerous and prohibited. Please visit the park’s trail status report online at https://www.nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/hikingthetrails.htm for information about trail access at Glacier National Park. |
