Save the Date: Living History Weekend at Spotsylvania Battlefield

News Release Date: March 7, 2019 SPOTSYLVANIA, VA:  Mark your calendars! On the weekend of June 22-23, 2019, the National Park Service will host a unique living history event on the Spotsylvania Court House battlefield. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with reenactors by receiving an identity card containing information about a soldier who actually fought in the battle. Attendees may immerse themselves into the battlefield’s history while learning about what happened to their designated soldier.

The event will be ongoing between the hours of 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday and 10:00am to 3:00 pm on Sunday. Special programs about the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, including both marching and musket-firing demonstrations, will occur throughout the weekend. Program times will be announced as the event nears.

Activities take place near the Bloody Angle site (Stop #3) on the Spotsylvania Court House battlefield. Visitors are encouraged to stop by the Spotsylvania Court House Battlefield Exhibit Shelter at 9550 West Grant Drive to obtain a map and directions to the program locations.
