FREDERICKSBURG, VA –The National Park Service and volunteers with the Friends of Wilderness Battlefield, who have been providing visitor services on the Ellwood grounds throughout the summer, will be opening the doors of Ellwood Manor to visitors on July 23, 2021.

Ellwood Manor will be open 10am-4:30pm, Friday-Monday, until August 16. After August 16, Ellwood will be open only Saturday & Sunday into the fall.

The gate to drive up to the parking area is open during the hours the house is open, but the grounds of Ellwood are open sunrise to sunset. When the gate is closed, visitors may park in the limited space next to, but not blocking, the gate and walk the grounds.

Ellwood Manor was a slave plantation built around 1790. At the outbreak of the Civil War it was owned by Betty and J. Horace Lacy, the same family that owned Chatham Manor in Fredericksburg. Ellwood was a Confederate field hospital after the Battle of Chancellorsville and a US headquarters during the Battle of the Wilderness. 

Ellwood Manor is located in the Wilderness Battlefield at 36380 Constitution Hwy, Locust Grove, VA 22508.
