On Saturday, February 15, 2019, the McLoughlin House in Oregon City, Oregon, will reopen after it's seasonal winter closure. The McLoughlin House is a unit of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, managed by the National Park Service and the McLoughlin Memorial Association. Upon reopening, the house will be open Fridays and Saturdays, 10 am to 4 pm. Docent-led tours will take place throughout both days at 10:15 am, 11:15 am, 12:15 pm, 1:15 pm, 2:15 pm, and 3:15 pm. Tours will begin at the neighboring Barclay House.

The McLoughlin House was built in 1846 and is one of Oregon's oldest homes. It served as the retirement home of Fort Vancouver's Chief Factor, Dr. John McLoughlin, and his family. In Oregon City, McLoughlin, also known as the "Father of Oregon," served as the mayor of Oregon City, owned sawmills, a gristmill, granary, and a general store, and donated land for schools and churches. Today, the house is restored and furnished to appear as it did while the McLoughlins were in residence. National Park Service rangers and volunteers share the fascinating story of the early days of Oregon City and the importance of the McLoughlin family to the history of the Pacific Northwest.

"The McLoughlin House is a treasured historic resource of the Pacific Northwest," said Chief of Interpretation Bob Cromwell. "It is one of the oldest historic structures in the State of Oregon, a shining example of early-20th century historic preservation efforts from a local non-profit, and the oldest National Historic Site west of the Mississippi River. We welcome visitors to experience the site directly this spring!"
