Contact: Mary Rose, Executive Director, Friends of Fort Vancouver, (360) 816-6216
The Friends of Fort Vancouver invite you to join us for a lovely summer’s evening on August 24, from 5 PM to 7 PM.
The Garden Anniversary Party will honor the 103rd birthday of the National Park Service and will showcase our park's beautiful heritage garden. The celebration includes music, tours of the garden, and sharing a delightful evening with our community to honor all National Parks and especially Fort Vancouver National Historic Site! This event is free.
“We are delighted that the volunteer gardeners will take center stage,” said Mary Rose, Executive Director of the Friends of Fort Vancouver, “as they explain the vegetables, plants and crops that once again flourish here.” Plants chosen for the garden are well-researched. “Each variety of cotton, tomatoes or roses is carefully scrutinized for its authenticity to the historic period.”
The Friends of Fort Vancouver will have heirloom seeds harvested from the garden for sale that evening and a small selection of related items from the Friends’ Bookstore, including some keepsakes made by the Fort Trades Guild volunteers. Mystery writer Christine Carbo will be on hand to autograph books, also available for sale by the Friends. Ms. Carbo is one of a growing number of exceptional novelists who set their plots in National Parks. Earlier in the day, Carbo will present on her national park-themed novels at the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center.
Special thanks to Fortside Brewing, a major sponsor of this event. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase in the Wine & Beer Garden for ages 21+.
Thanks to Corwin Beverage Co., birthday cake and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. All ages are welcome to the event. The evening will likely hold some fun and delightful surprises to salute our National Parks.
