Celebrate National Public Lands Day at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument on

Saturday, September 30, 2017 – Fee Free Day

In honor of National Public Lands Day, fees will be waived at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument as well as the 400 plus other national park units across the United States.

Special National Public Lands Day Activities:

Bird Hike, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Join local area birder Debbie Barnes for a birding adventure around Florissant Fossil Beds. Find some feathered friends whom you might not expect to be flying around the Monument. Meet at the Visitor Center.

Aspen Leaf Hike, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Join a ranger for a 2 hour, 3 mile hike to view hidden pockets of golden aspen leaves in the monument. Meet at the Visitor Center.

Hornbek Homestead Tours, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Travel back in time to the late 1870s and take a tour of Adeline Hornbek’s house. A ranger will be on site to provide a peak into the life of a homesteader. Meet at the Hornbek Homestead Parking Lot off of County Road Teller 1.

Junior Ranger Concert, 11:00 AM. Sing, dance, and learn about our national parks through a rock concert just for Junior Rangers. Bring your dancing shoes. Location: Outdoor Amphitheater behind the Visitor Center.

President Teddy Roosevelt, 1:00 PM. President Teddy Roosevelt will present a program on our national parks and monuments. His program is entitled "’For the use and benefit of everyone’.....saving the spirit of the United States by

accessing nature.” He will be discussing the act for the preservation of Antiquities and the National Parks Act. Location: Outdoor Amphitheater behind the Visitor Center.

Fossil Learning Lab 1:30 – 3:30. Get “up-close and personal” with fossils! Join us for ranger-led demonstrations, and hands-on searches for fossils. Meet in the yurt located in the picnic area near the Visitor Center.

Ranger Talk, 4:00 PM. Join a ranger for a 20 – 30 minute presentation and get a basic orientation to the history and prehistory of the area. Meet in the amphitheater behind the visitor center.
There are no additional fees for any park programs beyond the daily entrance fee.
