Weaving Workshop Offered at Millbrook Village

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Superintendent John J. Donahue announced today that the park will host a weaving workshop at Millbrook Village on Saturday, October 10, 2015. The event will be held from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Participants must pre-register for a time slot on the “loom bench” and will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with accomplished weavers while learning how to treadle a pattern, throw a shuttle, and make fabric. Each session will last 45 minutes.

At Millbrook Village, the National Park Service and dedicated volunteers re-create the lifestyle of many Americans during the nineteenth century. During this time period home production of woven items was regularly practiced in rural communities. “Hands-on experiences and cultural demonstrations are one of the best ways for visitors to take a step back in time and see how others lived before them,” said Superintendent Donahue. 

This program is free but advance registration is required and space is limited. To register, call [phone], Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4:30 pm. This program is designed for adults and children 13 years and older. Several village buildings will be open to tour during the event. 

Millbrook Village, a part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, is located in New Jersey 12 miles north of I-80 on Old Mine Road (Exit 1)
