Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Superintendent John J. Donahue announced today that the park will host a weaving workshop at Millbrook Village on Saturday, October 10, 2015. The event will be held from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Participants must pre-register for a time slot on the “loom bench” and will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with accomplished weavers while learning how to treadle a pattern, throw a shuttle, and make fabric. Each session will last 45 minutes.

At Millbrook Village, the National Park Service and dedicated volunteers re-create the lifestyle of many Americans during the nineteenth century. During this time period home production of woven items was regularly practiced in rural communities. “Hands-on experiences and cultural demonstrations are one of the best ways for visitors to take a step back in time and see how others lived before them,” said Superintendent Donahue.

This program is free but advance registration is required and space is limited. To register, call (570) 426-2452, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4:30 pm. This program is designed for adults and children 13 years and older. Several village buildings will be open to tour during the event.

Millbrook Village, a part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, is located in New Jersey 12 miles north of I-80 on Old Mine Road (Exit 1)
