Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Superintendent John J. Donahue announced today that the Challenge Family Americas Triathlon will take place on Sunday, August 16, 2015. Most of the route is located within the park.

The event will begin at 6:30 am at Smithfield Beach where participants will swim the first leg of the race in the Delaware River. Following the swimming leg, participants will bicycle north on River Road and then onto Route 209 to the NPS Commercial Vehicle Station just south of Milford. The riders will then reverse their course and bicycle to Shawnee Inn via Route 209 and River Road. The running leg will begin at Shawnee Inn and will take place on River Road and the McDade Recreational Trail. Route 209 and River Road will be closed to vehicles during the event.

Route 209 will be closed at 6 am on the day of the race and is tentatively scheduled to open by noon. River Road will be closed at 9 pm on Saturday, August 15. The gate at the northern end of River Road, near Park Headquarters, will be opened at noon allowing access to portions of the McDade Trail and Smithfield Beach from the north. River Road south of Smithfield Beach, including Hialeah Picnic Area, will remain closed for most of the day.
