BUSHKILL, Pa. — Starting the night of July 3, 2026, the Milford Star will shine again from its perch on top of Milford Knob in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

The Milford Star was a recognizable feature of the local landscape for over 100 years until its removal in 2017. A community led “Restore the Star” movement raised awareness and funds to reinstall the landmark.

“For generations, this star has been a beacon for the surrounding area,” said Eamon Leighty, superintendent of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. “We are grateful to all those who helped bring the glow back in time to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, including park partners and community leaders, such as Pike County Commissioner Matt Osterberg.”

Community volunteers will help light and maintain the star, helping preserve this important symbol of local heritage and community pride for future generations.

Celebrating Our Nation’s 250th Anniversary

The National Park Service is playing a leading role in the celebration and commemoration of the 250th anniversary of American independence. These efforts support Executive Order 14189 - Celebrating America's 250th Birthday, which calls for "a grand celebration worthy of the momentous occasion of the 250th anniversary of American Independence on July 4, 2026."

Throughout the country, national parks will host hundreds of 250th anniversary programs, events, and exhibits, including many sites with direct connections to the formation of the country.
