Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Superintendent John J. Donahue announced today that a project to replace the trail bridge on Hornbecks Creek will start on January 20. The former trail bridge was washed out by a storm several years ago. There will be intermittent trail closures effective immediately, including the parking area, trail, and the waterfalls. Motorists should expect minor delays due to heavy equipment maneuvering in the area.

“This is a great example of a project that is being paid for with funds collected at our expanded amenity fee sites,” said Donahue. “The fees people pay to use those sites remain in the park and must be used on projects that have a direct benefit to our visitors, like this trail improvement project,” he added. The project will be completed by Ocean Construction of Linwood, NJ, and depending upon favorable weather conditions, should be completed by early March.
