DEATH VALLEY, CA – An airplane landing at the Furnace Creek Airport ran off the end of the runway and flipped over. The pilot, the only occupant, was uninjured but was extricated from the airplane by National Park Service emergency crews.
The Cessna airplane was attempting to land at 9:20 a.m. on Friday, March 24th, 2017. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating to determine the cause of the accident.
Runway 15 at Furnace Creek Airport is temporarily closed due to the proximity of the wrecked plane to the runway. Runway 33 remains open. Pilots should use their discretion to determine if wind conditions allow for a safe landing on Runway 33.
