The 2021 Denali Road Lottery and Military Appreciation Day have been cancelled due to the landslide at Pretty Rocks closing over half of the Denali Park Road.
Transit and tour buses will continue offering Denali visitors the opportunity to travel to Mile 42 of the park road through Thursday, September 16th. On Friday, September 17th, the restricted portion of the Park Road from Mile 15 to Mile 30 will open to private vehicles until weather and road conditions close the road at Park Headquarters (Mile 3) for the winter season.
The Park Road will remain closed to all pedestrian and bicycle traffic at Mile 43 (East Fork Bridge).
2021 Road Lottery permit holders will be contacted via email and will receive an automatic $25 refund on the credit card that was used to sign up for the Road Lottery in Recreation.gov. No action is required for this to happen.
Visiting Denali National Park during the fall shoulder season is a remarkable experience, with opportunity for independent travel, fall colors, berry picking and the chance to spot wildlife preparing for winter. Grizzly bears have been reported frequenting these areas, so visitors are reminded to stay 300 yards away from any bear, carry bear spray, and be bear aware as they explore the Park Road.
Please visit Denali National Park online for more information about the Pretty Rocks Landslide, or updates to current road conditions.
