(St. Marys, GA) Public docking space on the north extension of the Dungeness Dock located on Cumberland Island is closed during the repair phase of dock reconstruction. This closure is in the interest of public safety, is immediate, and will remain in place until the construction of the Dungeness Dock is complete. This is anticipated to be by the end of March.
Sea Camp dock is available for private docking on the north extension. The south extension is closed to the public. Docking is permitted only between the hours of sunrise and sunset and is limited to vessels under 25 feet. Docking in such a way that interferes with ferry docking is prohibited.
Plum Orchard dock is available for private docking. Docking is permitted only between the hours of sunrise and sunset. The dock closes during the six (6) annual hunts announced annually, and during the annual Christmas at Plum event in the month of December. Docking in such a way that interferes with ferry docking is prohibited.
Docking rules and other park regulations can be found in Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations and the Superintendent’s Compendium found on the park website: Management Documents - Cumberland Island National Seashore (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov).
Cumberland Island is the largest barrier island off the coast of Georgia, encompassing more than 36,000 acres of maritime forests, salt marsh and beaches. The island is also home to over 9,800 acres of congressionally designated wilderness. The island’s natural and cultural resources provide a rich and diverse habitat for wildlife and offer a glimpse into the long history of coastal Georgia. The seashore is accessible by pedestrian-only passenger ferry from the historic community of St. Marys.
