Cumberland Island National Seashore and All Terrain Georgia are pleased to announce a pilot National Park Service (NPS) program that will offer two electric all terrain chairs (ATCs) to individuals with mobility impairments for free, making several island trails accessible to those who otherwise could not explore.

“We are excited to partner with All Terrain Georgia and increase mobility access to visitors that have previously been limited,” stated Cumberland Island National Seashore Acting Superintendent Steve Theus. “Improving accessibility helps us better serve the public, who all our parks belong to.”

All Terrain Georgia (ATG) officially launched last November. ATG currently has 275 active members who have access to ATCs in 11 Georgia State Parks and one at Newman Wetlands Center. If you or a loved one are interested in accessing this program, please visit the All Terrain Georgia website at www.allterraingeorgia.org. To protect Cumberland Island resources, the ATCs use area will be limited to designated trails and areas, and participants will receive orientation and maps.

All Terrain Georgia is an initiative of the Aimee Copeland Foundation. “Our goal is to enable people with mobility impairments to enjoy the nurturing and healing qualities of the vast natural resources in Georgia,” stated Copeland. “We have a vision of an inclusive Georgia where everyone can live and play in their own community.”

ATG and NPS plan to partner again to place another ATC at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Funding to purchase the ATCs was provided through a grant from the Chestnut Family Foundation of Atlanta.
