St. Marys, Ga. -- Due to the continued closure of Cumberland Island National Seashore related to the recovery from Hurricane Irma, the park is cancelling camping reservations through October 18. Docks needed for island access were badly damaged and are inoperable. Reservation holders will be notified by email of the cancellation, and will receive a full refund of their camping permit fees.

The decision to cancel camping reservations and continue park closure is in the interest of the safety of park visitors, employees, and emergency response personnel. We endeavor to open the island to full operations as soon as it is safe to do so. We hope you are able to visit Cumberland Island National Seashore in the future.

If you have questions or concerns about your refund please contact the Recreation.gov customer service line at 1-888-448-1474 or visit the Contact Us page to email your concerns or chat with a customer service representative by visiting: https://support.recreation.gov/rec_contact.

Please contact the Cumberland Island Ferry office at 877-860-6787 for information on refunds and transfers of ferry reservations for camping visits or day visits.

In the event that further closures and cancellations are necessary, updates will be posted on the Cumberland Island and Recreation.gov websites, and on the park's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CumberlandIslandNPS.

Two National Park Service (NPS) Incident Management Teams currently have 348 laborers, saw teams, arborists, heavy equipment operators and other employees on the ground at Cumberland Island National Seashore, and at national parks along the Atlantic coast, in South Florida and in the Caribbean clearing debris and working to safely reopen sites damaged by Hurricane Irma. The teams are composed of National Park Service employees from over 100 national parks in 39 states. Updates on damage assessments and recovery efforts at all affected national parks are available at http://go.nps.gov/hurricane.
