Crater Lake, OR – Saturday, August 11, 2018, is the 42nd Annual Crater Lake Rim Run.  This is not a park sponsored event but each year it is conducted under the guidelines of a special-use park permit. The following information will assist visitors who plan to be in the park before the event on Friday evening, August 10, and on the day of the run.

Event Details: This event includes a 6.7 mile run/walk, a 13.1 mile run and a 26.2 mile run around the Rim of Crater Lake National Park.

Park restrictions: During this event Rim Drive will be open only to clockwise travel on the inside lane (rim side) from Watchman Overlook to Sun Notch from 7:00 am to approximately 1:00 pm.  Pinnacles Road will also be closed in both directions during this time. Please use extreme caution when driving near event participants. Speed limits are decreased to 25 mph while runners are on the road.  As racers complete sections of the course, the road will open to traffic in both directions throughout the day.

Closures: Lost Creek campground will close Friday, August 10, at 3:00 pm and will re-open at 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 11.  Watchman Overlook, Mount Scott Trailhead, and Whitebark Pine Picnic Area, and access to their associated trails, will be closed to the public on Friday evening, reopening as the event moves past those locations. The parking lot at Cleetwood Cove will have limited parking available for ticketed boat tour passengers on Saturday morning. All other hikers must park in nearby pullouts.

Helpful Information: Shuttles for the race are operating from Mazama Village and Rim Village. Parking may be limited for visitors in these locations throughout the day.  Additional outhouses are available near shuttle locations.

Fire & Smoke: South to southwest winds continue to carry smoke into the park fluctuating the air quality and visibility. At this time, the event is on schedule.  If conditions deteriorate, a decision to cancel the event will be considered by the event coordinator and park administration.

Be safe and have an enjoyable visit!
