Sulphur, Okla.– The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has bestowed an Honored Institution Award to the National Park Service at Chickasaw National Recreation Area for recording over 100 years of weather observations in cooperation with the National Weather Service.
Throughout changes in names, people, uniforms, and equipment, the weather has been faithfully recorded to better document and understand our park and our region. “The weather in South Central Oklahoma is very dynamic,” says Chickasaw NRA Superintendent Bill Wright. “We are proud of our long standing relationship with the National Weather Service and our continued contribution to support their efforts to improve weather monitoring and create a Weather Ready Nation.”
