Sulphur, Okla.– The Veterans Lake Fire started as a controlled burn (brush pile) on private land on Saturday evening, March 19, 2022. It escaped containment at approximately 6:30pm on Sunday, March 20, 2022 and spread quickly into Chickasaw National Recreation Area. As of 10:00 am Monday 21, 2022, it is estimated at 3200 acres with 40% containment. Rain is forecast for the area throughout Monday and overnight into Tuesday, which is expected to greatly aid containment efforts.
