Thurmont, Md. – The National Park Service (NPS) is accepting applications through April 1st for the 2024 Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program at Catoctin Mountain Park. This is an exciting opportunity for high school students to spend eight weeks this summer doing meaningful outdoor work in a national park site from June 17 – August 9, 2024.
The work projects include trail trimming and rehabilitation, foot bridge and wayside cleaning, vegetation monitoring, fish monitoring, invasive plant management, and painting. The YCC will learn about plant and wildlife identification, hand tool use and maintenance, safety, leadership, teamwork, and the variety of careers available in the NPS. The position will involve daily outdoor physical work, hiking several miles per day, working in summer temperatures, and using a variety of hand tools.
Five YCC members will be selected through a random drawing. Applicants must be 15 – 18 years of age. The hourly rate of pay will be $17.50. The YCC will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Applications may be obtained online www.nps.gov/subjects/youthprograms/ycc.htm or by contacting e-mail us. Completed application forms must be either emailed to Lindsey or mailed and postmarked by April 1st to:
