Sidewalk through field toward site marked with a tall flag.

NPS

Camp Nelson National Monument is a place for all people. We are committed to providing an inclusive experience and improve access to information for all visitors. We will continue to update existing infrastructure and programs as we strive for inclusivity for everyone.

Physical Mobility

The Visitor Center, reconstructed barracks, and Oliver Perry House are all accessed via a short flight of stairs or have ramps to accommodate visitors who use wheelchairs. Paved sidewalks connect the buildings, and handicap parking spaces are available outside the Visitor Center.

A sidewalk also extends a short way beyond the Visitor Center, then travel continues on grassy trails, delineated by mowed grass within wide fields. Most of the walking trails meander across meadows and are not difficult for hikers of any ability. Trails to the closest historic earthen forts are not ADA-ABA accessible, but they may be navigable by wheelchair users depending on chair durability.
