Prior to being designated as a national monument, Jessamine County owned and operated the Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park to preserve and commemorate the resources associated with this nationally significant site. The County donated the land to the federal government to establish Camp Nelson National Monument. The National Park Service and Jessamine County have agreed to jointly manage the site. |
