ATLANTA — National Park Service (NPS) acting Regional Director Pedro Ramos announced the selection of Cinda Waldbuesser as the new superintendent of Canaveral National Seashore, effective Aug. 29.

“I am pleased to welcome Cinda back to the region as the new superintendent for Canaveral National Seashore where she will lead the effort in addressing complex natural resource management issues,” Ramos said. “Her strong focus on strategy and stakeholder engagement will add tremendous value toward preserving the Seashore’s unique natural and cultural resources which afford visitors extraordinary recreational opportunities.”

Canaveral National Seashore contains nearly 58,000 acres of barrier island, open lagoon, coastal hammock, pine flatwoods and offshore waters. Nestled in two-thirds of the park is Mosquito Lagoon – one of the most diverse and productive estuaries in North America.

"I’m thrilled to be selected as the next superintendent of Canaveral National Seashore," Waldbuesser said. “I am looking forward to working closely with the park's many partners to protect the pristine shoreline and tell the important stories of the park's many historical treasures.

Waldbuesser previously served as the superintendent of First State National Historical Park, where she managed operations of the six diverse park sites located throughout the state of Delaware that collectively tell the story of the early settlement of Delaware through the ratification of the United States Constitution. During her tenure at First State, Waldbusser was instrumental in revamping park operations to increase visitor engagement, establishing park partnerships and the planning for the operations of the park’s first welcome center.

Prior to First State, Waldbuesser worked as the NPS regional partnership and cooperating association program manager and as chief of staff working closely with parks and regional employees on many complicated and high-profile issues. In this capacity, she co-chaired the NPS National Partnership Council and was influential in the reshaping of the NPS Partnership Policy and the development of partnership training that reached more than 350 NPS staff and park partners.

Waldbuesser also previously served in details as: the chief of interpretation and education for the Outer Banks Group, which includes Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Wright Brothers National Memorial, and Fort Raleigh National Historic Site; as acting superintendent of First State National Historical Park, and as the public affairs officer at Independence National Historical Park.

Before joining NPS, Waldbuesser worked on Capitol Hill as a senior associate for Blakely & Agnew LLC – a public affairs firm – and as the senior program manager for a nonprofit NPS partner, the National Parks Conservation Association.

Waldbuesser graduated from Cornell University with degree in American Studies and completed graduate course work at Duke University. Waldbuesser, her husband, Kyle, their three children, and three rescue dogs love hiking, traveling, and spending time at the beach. #NewSuperintendent #SouthAtlanticGulf
