The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning and a Wind Advisory in effect for the region affecting the Outer Banks Group units, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and Wright Brothers National Memorial, by mid- afternoon on Tuesday, January 28.The storm is expected to have strong winds, significant snowfall levels and icy conditions that will continue through Wednesday, January 29, 2014. In anticipation of this weather event, NPS facilities located on Ocracoke and Hatteras Island will close at 11:00 a.m. today, Bodie Island, Wright Brothers National Memorial and Fort Raleigh National Historic Site will close at 12:00 noon today.All facilities will probably remain closed on Wednesday, January 29 or longer, until the impacts of the storm can be assessed and conditions are safe for visitor travel.
