Cape Hatteras National Seashore Sea Turtle Nest Status and Closures Superintendent Mike Murray announced the 2006 sea turtle nesting season is coming to a close in Cape Hatteras National Seashore. As of November 15, 2006, all known sea turtle nests have hatched north of Avon Village (Ramp 38 north to Rodanthe) and the related sea turtle nest closures have been removed. The Seashore still has two active sea turtle nests, both are within existing safety closure areas and therefore do not affect ORV access. One nest is located on Ocracoke Island and the second nest is located between Frisco and Hatteras Villages. A more complete sea turtle nesting summary for Cape Hatteras National Seashore will be available in January 2007. |
