Cape Hatteras National Seashore announces two-week public comment period for Flowers Ridge Road paving project

MANTEO, N.C. — Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) invites public review and comments on a proposed project to pave a small section of road at the intersection of Lighthouse Road and Flowers Ridge Road in Buxton. Public comments will be accepted from March 28 through April 10, 2024.

The current roadbed at the Seashore’s boundary is gravel and deteriorates due to weather events and vehicular traffic access to a private subdivision along Flowers Ridge Road. Paving the approximately 400-foot long, 25-foot-wide gravel section of road is expected to improve community access to the subdivision and reduce maintenance costs.
