Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) thanks the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association (NCBBA) and local community for helping to clean beaches following the departure of Hurricane Erin.

“In the wake of Hurricane Erin, the dedication of the NCBBA, the Buxton Civic Association and other members of the local community has been inspiring,” stated David Hallac, superintendent, National Parks of Eastern North Carolina. “Their tireless efforts to clean up miles of beaches following the storm reflects a love for America’s first national seashore and helps ensure a pleasant and safe experience for beachgoers. Thank you!”

In addition to community volunteer efforts, the Seashore deployed heavy equipment and dozens of staff to Buxton Beach Access and Old Lighthouse Beach on multiple days to clean up a significant amount of house debris and large pieces of broken concrete and asphalt. Kudos to Dare County for providing and disposing of nine dumpsters for the tons of debris collected by Seashore staff.
