On December 5, 2018, Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) will hold a public meeting to discuss its plans for a new beach parking area in Buxton, North Carolina.
In November 2013, the National Park Service issued a Finding of No Significant Impact for a Proposal to Construct New Development That Facilitates Public Access at the Seashore. Twenty-nine projects were approved as part of the plan, including many that have been implemented over the years.
The Seashore is ready to implement another project that was part of the approved plan; a 50-car parking area at the former Buxton Coast Guard Station with handicap accessible boardwalk. The area is located at the end of Old Lighthouse Road in Buxton.
The public is encouraged to attend a meeting to hear more about plans for the beach parking area on Wednesday, December 5 from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Fessenden Center Annex Building (47017 Buxton Back Rd) in Buxton, North Carolina.
Superintendent David Hallac and other National Park Service staff will be available to answer questions at the meeting.
