This National Volunteer Week, April 15-21, 2018, Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) applauds Volunteer Geta Jackoway for her exceptional work at the Bodie Island Visitor Center and the Oregon Inlet Campground.

With 30 years teaching experience, Jackoway brings enthusiasm and offers a great experience for visitors. “My interactions with visitors give me a feeling of pride as I answer questions, sell off-road vehicle permits, and check people in and out of the campground,” Jackoway said. “Helping children become junior rangers and answering questions about the lighthouses, beaches, campgrounds, and wildlife of the Seashore keeps me learning as I assist visitors in becoming familiar with this beautiful area.”

“Geta is awesome!” Supervisory Visitor Use Assistant Darius Collins said. “She regularly goes above and beyond for our visitors, and we’re fortunate to have her as a volunteer in our park.”

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Jackoway now travels and lives full-time in her recreational vehicle. As a supporter of the agency’s mission to preserve and protect natural lands and cultural resources, she has also volunteered at Bryce Canyon and Lassen Volcanic National Parks. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, swimming, biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, walking on the beach, and exploring new areas and local hotspots.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore welcomes volunteers. To view a list of current volunteer opportunities, visit www.volunteer.gov. Or call 252-475-9042 for more information.
