Outer Banks Group Superintendent David Hallac is pleased to announce that Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) and the Outer Banks Preservation Association (OBPA) are partnering on a messaging program to encourage all beachgoers to reduce their impacts along the Seashore by remembering that what is brought onto the beach during a visit should be brought off the beach at the end of each visit. Following the principle of pack it in, pack it out will help to reduce the volume of trash and litter that is found on Seashore beaches on a daily basis.

To kick off the campaign, Seashore staff and OBPA directors will unveil an informational pack it in, pack it out sign at the entrance to Ramp 43 in Buxton, North Carolina on Wednesday, August 2 at 11:30 am. All members of the public are invited to attend this special event.

The Seashore and OBPA collaborated on the design of the informational pack it in, pack it out sign and OBPA generously contributed 100% of the funds for the purchase of the signs that will be placed at key areas along the Seashore by National Park Service staff. Additionally, a pack it in, pack it out web page (https://www.nps.gov/caha/planyourvisit/pack-it-in-pack-it-out.htm) has been created in an effort to further educate park visitors.

Superintendent Hallac stated: “We appreciate OBPA’s commitment to helping keep the beaches at the Seashore clean and enjoyable for all visitors.”
