Seashore Updates
 
  • Superintendent Hallac is pleased to announce that David Dunaj (pronounced “Dew-ny”) has been selected as the new Hatteras Island District Ranger. David will arrive in the area this weekend from Catoctin Mountain Park in Maryland where he served as a park ranger since 2007. During his tenure at the park, David managed and participated in various multi-agency events, ranging from wildfires to dignitary protection. He has deployed across the country in response to disasters in Florida, Texas, and Hawaii. David recently completed temporary assignments as the acting Chief Ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park and as a Supervisory Park Ranger at Independence National Historical Park. He has worked hard to foster lasting relationships with the communities he has served.
  • On December 5, Cape Hatteras National Seashore will hold a public meeting to discuss its plans for a new beach parking area in Buxton, North Carolina. [Press Release]

  • The 2018 camping season ends next Monday.
  • The 2019 lighthouse climbing season starts the third Friday in April.

  • Winter Lighthouse Climb
    • Dec 8 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm (FREE)
    • Description: Enjoy a winter view of Hatteras Island from the top of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Presented in partnership with the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society. A little later in the day, make sure to check out the Hatteras Island Christmas Parade starting at 2:00 pm in Hatteras.
