COOLIDGE, AZ – On December 18, 2019 Casa Grande Ruins will host Carianne Campbell as part of its annual speaker series. The presentation will begin at noon on December 18 featuring Carianne Campbell who will present a lecture titled "Native Plants and Pollinators in the Lower Sonoran Desert". The speaker series will continue every Wednesday at noon through March 11.
Mrs. Campbell will explore the native plants of the Lower Sonoran Desert in natural and landscape settings, and discuss conservation of native bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other important pollinators. Learn about the pollinator garden project happening right here at Casa Grande Ruins National Monument and what you can do in your own landscape.
Carianne Campbell brings over 20 years of experience in natural resources documentation and planning throughout the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. She designs, implements, and monitors science-based restoration projects in both wild and urban landscapes, and specializes in developing applied vegetation ecology methodologies to support site-specific restoration prescriptions. Ms. Campbell is a well-known advocate for native plant restoration, and actively contributes to the field through regional conference planning and extensive oral and written presentations. She currently serves on the Board of the Society for Ecological Restoration, Southwest Chapter, as the Past President after completing terms as President and Vice President. She also has a long history of involvement with local conservation organizations and on a variety of advisory committees.
The Speaker Series is funded by the Friends of Casa Grande Ruins National Monument (http://friendsofcasagranderuins.org/) with additional support from Arizona Humanities (https://azhumanities.org/). The program begins at 12:00 pm in the Casa Grande Ruins visitor center theater at 1100 W Ruins Drive, Coolidge AZ, 85128. There is no fee for the program, and entrance to Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is free.
Casa Grande Ruins National Monument protects the multi-story Great House and the ruins of other ancient structures built by the people of the Sonoran Desert over 800 years ago.
The monument is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., May through September, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., October through April, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Independence Day holidays.
