COOLIDGE, AZ — Acting National Park Service Regional Director Kate Hammond announced the selection of Ben Littlefield as superintendent of Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in Arizona. Littlefield comes to Casa Grande Ruins National Monument from Redwood National and State Parks in California where he currently serves as the safety manager and acting chief of planning and project management. He will assume his new role on December 22, 2019. The position reports to the superintendent of Saguaro National Park.

“Ben brings experience and enthusiasm for visitor safety and recreation, and resource protection and preservation,” said Saguaro National Park Superintendent Leah McGinnis. “I know that Ben’s dedicated servant leadership and collaborative approach to problem solving will benefit the monument, its partners and the National Park Service.”

"I am honored to have been selected as the next superintendent of Casa Grande Ruins National Monument,” said Littlefield. “I look forward to working with park staff, park partners and the public on meeting the park’s maintenance backlog needs and identifying new opportunities to access the park’s world-class resources.”

Littlefield’s experience encompasses resource management, law enforcement, facility management, safety and project management. As the safety manager for Redwood National and State Parks, Littlefield focused largely on employee safety training, emergency response and communications, addressing critical safety infrastructure needs and engaging with staff. He completed details on the management teams of the San Francisco Bay Area Network and Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve. He also served the National Park Service as a law enforcement ranger and a seasonal wildlife and fisheries technician. Outside of the park service, Littlefield assisted in the study of wildlife diseases and managed the engineering and maintenance divisions for an industrial plant. Littlefield holds a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Management from Humboldt State University in California.

Littlefield’s wife Annette, two daughters Annabelle and Evie and dog Smoky will be moving with him to Arizona. They enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking, rock climbing, swimming, biking, kayaking, archery, shooting and hunting. Littlefield also enjoys tinkering on his classic-car project.
