Park Superintendent Chris Rodriguez shared his enthusiasm for the event: "This is a fantastic opportunity for families and visitors of all ages to observe and learn about gray whales and other marine life. We're especially excited to commemorate Cabrillo National Monument's 75-year legacy as the birthplace of land-based recreational whale watching in the U.S."
Established in 1913, Cabrillo National Monument has been dedicated to preserving the natural and cultural resources of San Diego for over a century. Notably, in the 1950s, the park became the first location in the United States to offer recreational whale watching from land. This year marks the 75th anniversary of Cabrillo National Monument's pioneering role in land-based whale watching.
This event is proudly sponsored by the Cabrillo National Monument Foundation. For more information, please visit the Special Events page of the park website.
