SAN DIEGO, CA – Grab your magnifying glass and explore nature at Cabrillo National Monument, like never before! On May 21st, 2016, national parks across the country, including Cabrillo National Monument, will participate in the National Parks BioBlitz. BioBlitz is a fun, fast-paced biological survey of a park’s creepers and crawlers, plants and pollinators, mammals and more! The National Park Service is celebrating its 100th birthday with more than 100 BioBlitzes across the country.

Join us at Cabrillo National Monument on May 21st,2016 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. as we unite with our fellow parks and local partners to celebrate biodiversity and science on a national scale. Come learn about the unique ecosystems of the Monument, participate in science-based activities, and help park biologists in quantifying the plants and animals that call Cabrillo home.

Over 22 exhibitors and Cabrillo’s Artists-in-Residence will provide hands-on activities for all ages and local scientists will talk about their research. Guided Walks are scheduled throughout the day using the program iNaturalist (available for Android and Apple). We recommend you download and familiarize yourself before you get to the park! Staff will be on hand to help should you have any questions.

American Express is the national sponsor of the 2016 National Parks BioBlitz. Special thanks to the many park and local sponsors who are making this event possible: Cabrillo National Monument Conservancy, Cabrillo National Monument Foundation, Volunteers-in-Parks, United States Geological Survey, San Diego Natural History Museum, Climate Science Alliance, San Diego Zoo Global, Bureau of Land Management, CA State Parks, SPAWAR, Audubon, San Diego Arthropod Society, Barona Cultural Center, San Diego State University, UC San Diego, San Diego Coastkeeper, Project Wildlife Living Coast Discovery Center, CA-Native Plant Society, StayCool4GrandKids, CA Geographic Alliance, and ArtFORM.

Explorers of all ages are needed. Whether you have a couple of hours or a full day, there are activities to engage the whole family. In the spirit of lowering our global impact, we highly recommend park guest utilize public transportation out to the Monument. To learn more about the National Parks BioBlitz and activities go to:
