HOMESTEAD, FLORIDA – Free camping is available at Biscayne National Park campgrounds from May 1 through September 30, 2015. Beginning October 1, 2015, regular fees will increase from $20 to $25 per night. During the summer months there is insufficient revenue to support the cost of collecting fees. Few people brave the heat, humidity and insects during this time. Camping and docking in park campgrounds on Boca Chita Key and Elliott Key is therefore free from May 1 through September 30, 2015. Regular fees at both campgrounds will increase from $20 to $25 per night beginning October 1, 2015. Campground fees have not changed in many years despite increased operating costs, hurricane damage and tightened budgets. The fee increase will bring park campground fees in closer alignment with the prices charged at similar facilities in south Florida. The fee increase will help offset the costs of repairing and maintaining the park's camping and docking facilities. Both park campgrounds are located on islands. The only access to these islands is by boat. Camping is on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not needed or accepted for either campground.
